Technology war

The technology landscape of the future is changing everyday as mobility and flexibility is becoming more and more in demand.

Companies like Google, Apple & Samsung are leading the way to supply the products and services that consumers want.

Currently the technology focus is on mobile devices, however I see the key area for innovation that is largely untapped is the Television.

TV's for too long have been big empty machines with lots of room that is not used and could be.

TV's as media players have a lot of room for improvement.

TV's as internet hubs have a lot of room for optimisation.

TV's are the heart of todays society. If your not on your phone, your in front of a TV. Being able to communicate and transact with the TV is going to be the ultimate frontier even if this is done in the background passively. Who does this the best will be the market leader.

My ideal TV of the future will do the following:

It will have a built in Hard drive/NAS around 4 terabytes that can be easily upgraded and exchanged. pull out slot with larger storage sizes etc...

It will have numerous network ports for connecting more storage or network devices.

It will emit a wireless signal so other devices in the home can connect to it.

It will be your modem for the internet so no more external routers need. One stop shop for networking.

It will play your TV signals plus Internet TV.

It will have a built in Web cam for video chat.

It will be your gaming device with downloaded games, and wireless controllers (phones included as controllers)

It will have a firmware or operating system tied to IOS Apple OR Samsung/android OS or a Toshiba/Apple IOS or a Samsung/Samsung Firmware etc...

The Software platform will deliver the user experience along with security, flexibility and free upgrades.
All media format should be playable depending on your firmware version.

TV's for too long have been about what you see, not what you can do and see. That's going to change and companies should be looking into this type of user experience as its a massive opportunity to be exploited.

We all know about cloud computing and the relegation of physical hardware to a device rather than a hub. In some views the TV will become one of the devices in the cloud network but it is a major device that can simply technology network and provide a one stop shop.
The possibilities are limited only by your views so keep them open and think about the bigger picture and not what we know now but what we could know tomorrow.
